Club Captain Donald MacAllister chaired the Club’s 16th January AGM in the island’s fire station and reflected on a season that had included a successful Open competition and ceilidh and an enjoyable trip to The Machrie, on the Isle of Islay.  Due to consistently adverse weather, there had been no Winter League, however members had squeezed a couple of Texas Scramble matches into the gaps between Abigail, Gertrude, Desmond and Henry.

Colonsay Man Steps Up To Scottish National Hockey Team

Colonsay commuter Dannie Onn has been selected to play for the Scotland over 60s team at the 2016 Grand Masters Hockey World Cup in Australia. The world cup is being held in Newcastle, NSW and runs for the first two weeks of May. The competition is for national teams in the age groups 60+, 65+ and 70+. Says Dannie; ‘It is a great honour to be selected, but with less than 14 weeks to go I have a huge  responsibility to get to ...

Colonsay Rugby Festival 2015

Friday evening on Machrins, tent up, pitch immaculate, open-air toilets with the best view in Scotland and new high tech electric shower (car battery, IBC and pallet enclosure)- in fact everything ready for the fourth Colonsay Rugby Festival. Boat comes in, teams ferried to the site, lovely evening and great party, fuelled by the Colonsay Brewery.

Sports Day

Sports Day buzz got off to a great start with a ‘4th of July’ fundraising ceilidh, celebrating all things American. Gavin and the Pantry team served classic Stateside fare which fuelled a long night of enthusiastic dancing. An unusual and well-attended start to the ceilidh season which raised almost £300 to go towards the community sports.

Colonsay Open Golf 2015

The Colonsay Open took place on Saturday 15 August in excellent sunny conditions.

After assembling in the Pantry for pre golf coffee, bacon rolls, allocation of handicaps and explanation of the days rules a motley group of golfers made their way to the first tee.

The club visited the Machrie GC in Islay on 12 June 2015

A group of golfers (Dr Dave , Judge Derek , Prof Neil , Donald Roofless Ross , Steven Dunblane , Davie Blue , caddy Scott and WAGS Dilly and Moira all travelled by ferry and plane to Islay for the second annual Machrie event.

Pre competition drinks were had in the Lochside on Thursday evening where attempts were made to have clear heads for the 18 holes on Friday.

MacPhee Bagging

Please make a note to participate or sponsor someone… the idea is to climb all of the MacPhees (hills in excess of 300 ft), starting and finishing at a point below HWS.  Get someone to sponsor you for (say) £1 a hill, and do just as many as you have the inclination for (Ho! Baton honor as Jim carries the torch for Colonsay

Island resident Jim McLoughlin was honored in the Queen’s Baton relay as he carried the Commonwealth symbol through part of Argyll.
Jim had been put forward because of his 30 years of volunteering as a coach at Queen’s Park Amateur Athletics Club in Glasgow and more recently for his voluntary work in Kilchattan Primary School where he teaches the youngsters in PE.

Colonsay’s set to celebrate the Commonwealth Games tomorrow (Saturday August 2) with an afternoon and evening of fun.

Sports for children and adults alike are to commence at Machrins at 1pm and in the evening there is a ceilidh and buffet featuring foods from round the Commonwealth.

All the events are free thanks to funding from the Big Lottery designed to help communities celebrate the outstanding success of the Glasgow Games.

Sports news – Rugby fesitval success – despite the rain

The third Colonsay Rugby festival has been hailed an outstanding success with a record number of teams enjoying a packed weekend of sport that saw Oban RFC crowned champions – again.

The festival is the brainchild of the Middleton family who continue as the main organisers and “doers”

In the month of June, an eighteen-strong raiding party left the shores of Cholbhasa, bound for Eileann Ila, writes our Golf Correspondent Scott Weatherstone. Their challenge was to play The Machrie, one of the finest but trickiest golf courses in Scotland; it has a lot more long rough than our course; it’s 1,000 yards longer and has deep bunkers; there isn’t an easy hole in the whole course.  The date chosen?
